Thanks to the excellent support of a tiny group of playtesters, I have received helpful bug reports as well as insightful feature requests. This time we focus on old and new bug reports related to the game’s controls. And if you’d like to become one of those game breaking supporters, info is at the end.
Menus & Input Prompts
The main event here was the full restoration of responsive input prompts, which are those little on screen hints that tell you what button or key to press for specific actions. If you’re a keyboard only player, this has shown you the incorrect set of icons: Xbox gamepad buttons instead of keyboard keys.
Now it offers proper keyboard support when you touch the mouse, press a key, or the game simply doesn’t see a gamepad connected. Some smaller things were also improved, including the addition of on screen buttons for the About and Controls screens.
Gameplay Pause Exploits
While it didn’t usually cause any game breaking issues, it used to be possible to interrupt the docking sequence or extra ship delivery sequence and restore movement controls simply by pausing and unpausing the game.
I allowed this reported bug to stick around for far too long, but finally decided that any kindly reported bug should get some fair attention to show appreciation to the testers who generously offer their time and energy, so I finally pushed this one to the top of the list.
After a little system rebuild, I managed to improve the way the game enables and disables your ship’s control status. The game is now just a little bit more solid under the hood and the pause exploit situation should hopefully be fixed.
Breakers Wanted
To properly build a solid game, it needs people who have more than a strong interest. It requires the willingness to put in a little extra time and effort to push on the limits of the game as well as the cleverness to find those limits and ways to push.
If you would like to see this game more bullet proof and it just so happens that evil button mashing is how you prefer to show love and support, please sign up to become a playtester. Note: casual playtesters also needed. Your feedback, no matter your skill level, could make a huge difference on the final version of REVO.
