REVO v0.42.0 Update
Both a blessing and a curse are brought to you today in the form of the latest REVO update. First, the game ensures you can’t get stuck forever in a battle without ammo, and then it literally paints you in a corner with the latest boss upgrade. Learn about this month’s big changes and then try it out for yourself.
Supply Boosts
For a long time, there has been a terrible flaw within the core gameplay: it is possible to run completely out of ammo and other resources until you cannot attack anymore, leaving you trapped in an endless stalemate condition.
Today this is corrected because now the game will detect when you are in the most dire of combat desperation and find a way to keep you in the fight. The catch? You have to survive, gather this lucky item yourself, and then survive some more until support arrives.
Limited ammo has always created challenges for the game’s design, but it seems worthwhile because it creates an interesting dynamic between resource management and combat. Give the game a try and see if the new Supply Boost answers the need.
Blast Waves
Not all fun is about winning. Sometimes it’s just avoiding unfun stuff. For example, nobody wants to fight a boring and endless battle, or worse, run and hide forever without fighting at all. It would ultimately be better to simply lose the battle than let it drag out.
To push boss battles toward an ending, whether that be a win or a loss, the power core blast waves will now gradually reach farther and farther until they become impossible to avoid. This means you have to either win or die trying.
In an effort to keep the game fair and fun, blast waves from power cores are no longer too fast to outrun, given they will cover a very large portion of the screen eventually. It would be exciting for the battle to be fought up until the last possible second. If you thought boss battles were too easy, see how you hold up against these massive rings of fire. And beware: more doom is on the way soon.
Gameplay Is King
It’s been good to focus on these core concepts and find some solutions to try, but on my own, it’s hard to prove they work perfectly and are the kind of fun I hope they are. Become a playtester to show even more support and provide feedback. The input of actual players goes a long way toward improving the experience for everyone. You don’t even need any gaming experience to be a huge help, just sign up, download, play the latest preview versions of REVO, and tell me what you think.
